Two purple Ruellia simplex flowers
Ruellia-simplex
Ruellia simplex (Mexican Petunia)

In Colombia it has a wide habitat and is likely naturalized. Spreads very quickly, grows easily from cutting and is drought tolerant. Over time it can get dense as a hedge. The blooms rarely last past noon in strong heat, but are ever-blooming. Photographed in Barranquilla where it is very common.
