Hibiscus rosa sinensis
This plant is Barranquilla´s symbolic flower, yet it does not originate from the Americas. It is a classic for the tropics and comes in a variety of colors. Hibiscus has a large range from the coast to the mountains of Bogotá. However on the Caribbean coast they are not that plentiful and appear to be susceptible to disease or pest.
