Cauca Valley

This large agricultural valley at an elevation over 3000 feet is between the Andes central and western mountain ranges. The primary crop is sugar cane. The sugar cane is burned before harvesting to eliminate the leaves from the cane and to create a sweeter cane. It is rare not to see smoke rising from some part of the valley. The city of Santiago de Cali is on the northwest side of the valley.
