Carica papaya (Papaya)

The only native species of the genus Carica in Colombia with a habitat below 7,000 feet. The vitamin C rich fruit is tasty when mixed with other fruit for juice. The whole fruit is edible. The fruit can be as large as a watermelon or small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Photographed in Atlantico.
