Ananas comosus (Pineapple)

Colombia has five species of the genus Colombia Ananas, but this is not one of them. Colombia is the 11th largest producer of pineapple where it is called piƱa. Cultivated between sea-level and 6,600 feet. On the street the price for one pineapple can be less than 40 cents. In season, pickup trucks with beds full of pineapples will be for sale on roadsides. Photographed in the central Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Central).
