I have only seen a few varieties of begonias on the Caribbean coast. They are often sold in hanging baskets for around fifteen dollars (US). Most nursery plants in Colombia run from two to eight dollars in one or two gallon containers, very cheap by American standards. This plant seems to die or taper off on the Caribbean coast after a couple of years, but propagates easily. In the rainy tropical zones above 1000 feet begonias will be grown in the ground and do very well. Photographed in the central Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Central).
